Description: Discover a previous world of Ice Age Mammals through dozens of real fossils, touchable casts and specimens in this interactive exhibit from the Canadian Museum of Nature. Learn about the dramatic effects of climate change, extinction, and how humans have impacted the climate and other species of life. Yukon-based palaeoartist George "Rinaldino" Teichmann rounds out this exhibit with his dramatic ice age murals.

Description: Lessons will be from 9am-11am and rentals will be available from 11am-4pm. Traditional cross country touring skis, snowshoes and skate skis are available for children and adults. Warm drinks and snacks are available inside the touring center. Paddle and Trail also grooms trails at Sinnissippi golf course, offering 2k loops for classic skiing and skate skiing. Equipment rentals are offered on a first come, first served basis, and reservations are recommended. Paddle and Trail also offers rentals at their Loves Park locations, 7212 N. Alpine Road, Loves Park, IL. Equipment can be rented by the hour, ½ day, full day or multiple days. Contact Paddle and Trail for trail conditions or to reserve a lesson or rental, 815-636-9066. Description: This winter Paddle and Trail introduces a new series of Wednesday night cross country ski and snowshoe races for skiers of all abilities. This is a great way to get out and enjoy some winter time fun while at the same time exercising some of those competitive juices. Elite skiers, beginners and even children are welcome to participate in this series. Timed ski races will begin at 6pm with casual and social skiing and snowshoeing afterward.

Description: Robots characters, from the 20th Century Fox animated feature of the same name, introduce visitors to the exciting and ever-expanding field of robotics. Immersed in genius inventor Rodney Copperbottom's machine-populated world, visitors assemble their own "Wonder -bot" and take a virtual tour of robot vehicles. This adventure goes beyond Hollywood as "reel" turns "real" with current and future applications of robotics in science and society. Students get riveted by science and mathematics as they design a robot probe for Mars, deep space, or ocean exploration; and program a robotic arm just like the ones used by Ford Motor Company. Visitors can pick up the remote to control a variety of different types of robots and glimpse the companies and machines that are shaping the future.

Description: Because of the mild winter weather, Tinker Swiss Cottage is opening a month early for general admission tours, offered Tuesday through Sunday at 1pm and 3 PM. All tours are guided. Group tours are welcome and reservations may be made for eight or more visitors to tour the Cottage on any day and at a time convenient to the group. The Reservations will need to be made at least 24 hours before the tour. All tours start at the Visitor's Center, which is a re-creation of the Tinker family barn. The Museum is closed for tours on Mondays.

Chicago-based artist and avid draftsman Don Colley reveals his awe-inspiring and mind-bending world in this exhibition of paintings, prints, ceramic tiles, personal sketchbooks, and a compelling wall installation of drawings. According to Lori Waxman, Freelance Art Critic of Chicago, the artist’s depiction of “…evil clowns, brawling boxcar hobos, and flamboyant carnie types are intensely cinematic. They’re sinister and alluring, able to suggest entire storylines within a single drawing.”

Description: Rockford artist Roland Poska's pioneering work in the field of handmade paper establishes him as an important figure throughout the Midwest and the nation. Description: Twenty students from Auburn, Freeport, Guilford, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Spectrum High Schools will participate in the Northern Illinois "Poetry Out Loud" regional contest at District 205's West Middle School. The first and second place winners of this competition advance to Illinois' State Competition on March 29 in Springfield. The State champion advances to the National Finals on May 13-15 in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. The competition, presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation in partnership with the Illinois Arts Council, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.
